Surco Carrom Boards
When we. first began importing carromboards in the 1980s, Surco was the only game in town. Based in Bombay, Mr. K.L. Sure was the first to manufacture boards suitable for tournament play, as well as for home use. Their Surco Bull-Dog was the #1 choice for tournaments, clubs, street play and professional players and most experienced players cut their teeth on Surco boards.
By the 1990s, Surco saw new competition from Precise and Synco, who improved on the basic design by creating waterproof, scratch resistant playing surfaces and frames reinforced with formica. The joinery and frame finishing improved and soon Surco began to lag in their quality control. Still being manufactured in an industrial zone in Mumbai, Surco is the classic “0ld-school” board with a relatively rough finish, especially on the back side, and a thin coat of paint on the frame.
We no longer carry their Tournament or Champion models, since the quality was too inconsistent, but their Winit and Ellora boards are still great choices for beginning and intermediate players.
